Kingston City Council passed an ordinance calling for a referendum on a city sales tax increase. This action was taken to avoid a possible loss in sales tax revenue if Roane County voters approved an increase in the county levy.

Kingston Police Department was preparing to kick off its Neighborhood Watch Program. The first city in the county to initiate the program, police were looking for eyes and ears in the community to watch for anything out of the norm.

Despite stickers, signs and people opposing it, Rockwood City Council voted 5-1 on first reading of an ordinance to ban pitbulls within the city limits and place restrictions on ones already in the city.

Rockwood City Council approved a committee to begin working with the state for approval for an interchange and connector road to Rockwood Street from Hwy. 299. The route would replace Airport Road, the present road connecting Rockwood with Interstate 40 at Exit 340. That road had become unstable due to mining activity in the region.
