25 Years Ago
Kingston Regional Planning Commission gave strings-attached approval to final development plans of Brentwood Landing. The state planner said most of the problems would be easy to take care of. Everything was ready; it just wasn’t at the meeting. Construction activity was expected to begin within the month.

10 Years Ago
The Mayme Carmichael, Floy Huston, Peggy Young Historical School and Park Committee was trying to raise funds to rebuild the Oliver Springs Colored School. Named in honor of three former teachers, committee members also wanted to build a park on the school’s former site on the outskirts of Oliver Springs.

Five Years Ago
The Tennessee Responsible Vendor Act of 2006 went into effect, requiring anyone purchasing beer for off-premises consumption to show proper picture identification with proof of age, no matter how old they are. The idea behind the law is that if everyone is carded, odds of accidentally selling to minors are reduced.

One Year Ago
The newly constructed Physicians Plaza of Roane County had tenants moving in, including a drug store and doctor’s offices. Other health related businesses were expected to follow.
