The Tennessee Egg Cooking Contest limited entries to main-dish recipes. The second-place adult winner was Kathleen F. Cole of Rockwood. The junior/senior high school winner was Nicky Cole, also of Rockwood, and the daughter of Kathleen. Winners received a U.S. Savings Bond worth
$400.

David Ridenour assumed a new role as marketing instructor at Roane County High School, turning over his driver education instructor duties to Coach Robby Collier. Rideour had been a driver eduation instructor for 32 years, the previous 15 at RCHS. He also had three degrees in marketing, so when this opportunity presented itself, he decided to take it.

Five Years Ago

The Tennessee NonSmoker Protection Act was signed into law by Gov. Phil Bredesen. The smoking ban prohibits smoking in enclosed public areas with just a few exceptions. Bars could allow smoking as the patrons are 21 years of age or older.

Emilie Gregg of Rockwood was the recipient of a handcrafted dollhouse made for her by Gail May. May spent several months on the project. The 6-year old Gregg had a rare disorder that limits her outdoor time. May, a mapping coordinator at E-911 began making dollhouses as a kind of therapy while she was going through chemotherapy and thought Emilie and the dollhouse would be a perfect fit.
