Magic prepare for magical trip

When it comes to softball, not many places compare to Oklahoma City’s Hall of Fame Stadium.
Hall of Fame Stadium is the site of the NCAA Women’s College World Series, where the Tennessee Lady Vols recently finished second overall.
This weekend, however, eight girls from Roane County, with college aspirations of their own, will get the opportunity to play at Hall of Fame Stadium as part of the 2013 ASA Hall of Fame Tournament.
Kingston’s Alex Aycock, Kat Butler, Briley Garrett and Makenzie Spurgeon along with Harriman’s Abby Higgins, Oliver Springs’ Courtney Jones, Midway’s Kallie Sohm and Rockwood’s Baylee Young play for the Magic 16-Under team that qualified for the ASA Hall of Fame Tournament by finishing third overall in and ASA Hall of Fame qualifying tournament in Chattanooga on May 31-June 2.
Only 26 teams nationwide will be playing in the ASA Hall of Fame Tournament.
The trip to Oklahoma City is part of what has been a busy month for the Magic. Besides playing in Chattanooga to open the month, they have played in Columbia, S.C. and Birmingham, Ala.
The team’s remaining three players include Alcoa’s Morgan Brewer and Christina White along with Coalfield’s Diana Ratcliffe.
The Magic are coached by David Sohm, Jeff Spurgeon and Chris White.
