After 25 years, Bob Martin has decided to retire early from Rockwood Water, Sewer and Natural Gas.
Manager Kim Ramsey said Martin, 62, was a service worker in the water and sewer departments.
“We appreciate his years of service with the utilities and his loyalty. He’s been a dependable part of our utilities for a long time,” said Ramsey.
Martin was among the workers offered early retirement as a money-saving measure for the utilities. It was an opportunity he jumped on.
“He’s excited about it, and it worked out well that it is something he wanted to do,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey said that Martin was hired by former interim manager Ron Berry, a past board member who had served for many years.
“We're going to miss him and wish him a happy retirement,” Ramsey said.
In addition to a small party at the Church Street warehouse, Martin received an engraved clock recognizing his 25 years of service.
Fellow employees also decorated his vehicle. Martin, getting into his truck on the undecorated side, didn’t notice the go-lucky sentiment until he’d already begun driving away.
