Master Gardeners to study ‘Orchard Skills’

-A A +A

“Orchard Skills: From Planting to Pruning” is the topic of the Roane County Master Gardener’s  sixth winter workshop, planned for Feb. 25.

The Master Gardeners are teaming up with Roane County Extension Agent Grant Palmer and Bradbury United Methodist Church to provide both classroom training and active, hands-on experience in an orchard.

The classroom experience will include lunch, a discussion of soil prepara-
tion, plant selection, planting, fertilization, pruning and opportunities for
sharing the harvest with those in
need.

The class will then move to the orchard for hands-on experience in tree pruning and tree shaping techniques. Each tree is different, so seeing a number of examples is important for skill mastery.

The fee for the course is $10. Course slots are limited; those wishing to attend are asked to preregister by calling John Leitnaker at 376-5323.
