Kingston Mayor Troy Beets was already an active member of many statewide municipal government organizations; now you can add one more credential to his resume.
Beets was selected as the next statewide vice president of Tennessee Municipal League at the association’s June meeting.
He was already a district director for TML.
Tennessee Municipal League is a statewide coalition of local governments that lobbies for legislation favorable to municipalities; it also provides a number of services to its member cities.
“I’m in line now to be the president, and I don’t think we’ve had anyone in county be a district manager before,” Beets said. “It’s a tremendous honor; it’s a recognition of what I’ve been able to accomplish.”
Beets is also chairman of East Tennessee Development District, and its sister organization the East Tennessee Human Resources Agency, an office he took over in July.
ETDD oversees planning and community development issues for governments in its 16-county region.
ETHRA provides various services to families and individuals in that same region.
Beets said his involvement in groups such as these makes him better able to bring resources back to Kingston.
He said they helped recently when he called an official at Tennessee Housing Development Agency, and procured $150,000 for disaster relief in connection to a June 10 tornado shortly thereafter.
“I feel like my participation in things like this helps a lot,” Beets said. “It helps knowing who to call, and having those contacts when you need something done.”
