After a pair of rain outs last Monday and Tuesday, Midway and Harriman decided enough was enough and they got in a Wednesday game that was not previously scheduled. Midway would end up getting a 7-4 win over the Blue Devils, but the result would not be counted as a district game.
Midway would go on to finish out the week with a 5-1 loss at Knox Christian on Thursday. Friday the Green Wave took a day-night doubleheader from Oakdale, winning 9-3 and 15-8. One of the games against Oakdale was a make up game from Monday’s game that was rained out.
Harriman did pick up their first win of the season when they knocked off Kingston 14-8 Thursday.
The highlight of the week for Midway was the early season hitting of Hayden Hester. Hester blasted three home runs during the first four games, one at Harriman Wednesday and then one each in the two five-inning games against Oakdale Friday. For the week, Hester was 7-8 batting with six walks figured in. He also drove in eight runs during the early stretch of games.
Zach Qualls was on something of a hot streak for Midway during the week. He was 7-12 batting and he also drove in seven runs, all on singles.
Pitching was not so good for either Midway or Harriman during the week. Both teams gave up a lot of runs, but they hope to get some better outings as the weather warms up.
Logan Davidson pitched well against Oakdale giving up only a single run in four innings, but he was charged with all four runs in the win at Harriman.
