The Midway Green Wave beat the rain and the Cosby Eagles Thursday evening, 9-8.

Thursday’s game was a seesaw affair that would see Midway’s game-winning run being scored on a dropped third strike of all things.

The two teams were tied 3-3 after one inning of play as a pair of RBI singles from Zach Edwards and Hayden Hester highlighted Midway’s three-run first inning.

Both teams scored in the second inning, but this time it would be the Eagles outscoring the Green Wave 2-1 to hold a 5-4 advantage.

Zach Brummitt walked and scored on a passed ball for Midway.

Midway pulled even at 5-5 after Nick Collins singled and scored on a passed ball in the top of the third inning.

The fourth inning would see a lot of runs scored, as the Green Wave outscored the Eagles 3-2 in the frame to take an 8-7 lead.

Edwards and Hester again picked up the big hits in the inning as both had RBI singles. Shandon Lyle also drove in a run when he reached on an error.

Midway’s final run came in the top of the fifth inning when Logan Davidson scored after Zach Edwards reached on a dropped third strike. That strikeout would have been the third out of the inning.

Cosby scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 9-8, but they would get no closer as Midway held on for the win.

Davidson (2-4, 1 run), Edwards (2-4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) and Hester (3-4, 2 RBIs, 1 run) all had multiple hits for Midway in the win.

Hester recorded the victory on the mound with Christian Moore picking up the save.
