The Midway Middle School Green Waves dropped to 2-5 on the year and fell out of the championship game picture after a 14-2 loss to Norwood on Thursday.

Midway scored their safety near the end of the first quarter and it appeared that they might hang on to that lead till the end, but Norwood pushed in a couple of second half touchdowns to get the win.

A disappointed Midway team will finish their season Thursday with a visit to Oliver Springs.

The Green Waves had a chance to put Norwood away in the first half, but couldn’t find the end zone.

Midway’s first drive ended at the two yard line when they failed to get a first down on fourth-and-one at the two. Jonathan Beason's 54-yard run on the third play of the drive set the Green Waves at the Norwood 10, but they could not complete the drive.

Midway did get the safety when Norwood was called for holding in the end zone that allowed the two points to be scored.

A short free kick put Midway back in good field position at the Norwood 48. However, three plays later quarterback Mason Woody was intercepted for the first Midway turnover of the game.

After forcing a Jaguar punt, Midway picked up one first down, but the Waves fumbled at the 35 for the second turnover.

Cody Schommer picked off a Norwood pass on the third play of this possession and the Green Waves had new life once again at the Norwood 45.

Midway pounded the ball closer and would reach the three before time ran out in the half. Jason Gaus had the long run in the drive picking up 13.

Midway’s four possessions in the second half ended in two punts, a turnover on downs, and a fumble.

Norwood scored their first touchdown with 3:04 left in the third quarter and they put the game away with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
