The Midway Middle School Green Wave won their fifth straight game and avenged an earlier loss when they eased past Greenback 37-34 Thursday night.

In the opening game Greenback rolled to a 49-8 decision.

The Green Wave improved to 11-6 with the win while the Lady Waves fall to 0-17.

Both teams will wind up the regular season next week when they travel to Lenoir City Monday and host Harriman on Thursday.

Girls Game

Despite playing hard all season, the Midway Lady Green Waves have had a tough time with scoring this season and Thursday was no scoring.

Greenback started slow, but put together a 25-point second quarter to get the big runaway win.

Micah Shirran scored the only Midway basket in the first quarter.

Midway got baskets from Shirran and Paige Bacon in the second quarter, but the Lady Waves trailed 32-6 at halftime.

Alexis Bosnak scored the final Midway hoop of the game in the third quarter.

Boys Game

Midway evened the season series with Greenback with a 37-34 win.

The Green Wave might have gotten a bigger win, but having to play in the high school gym seemed to throw them off kilter just a little.

The middle school gym was being outfitted with a set of bleachers so the game had to be transferred to the high school gym.

Midway pulled out to a 10-5 lead at the end of one, but trailed at halftime, 18-16. They won the third quarter 12-6. They kept the pressure on in the early fourth quarter and led by nine at one point before Greenback trimmed the lead to the three-point final margin.

Jake Woody and Landon Atchley scored four points each in the opening period while Colby Fowler added a basket to give Midway the early 10-5 lead.

Greenback’s Hunter Willis scored four points in the first quarter, but dropped in nine second quarter points to put the Cherokees up 18-16 by halftime.

Woody and Atchely scored three points in the second quarter on a basket and free throw each.

Five Green Wave players scored in the third quarter with Landon Davidson leading the way with two hoops. Woody, Atchley,  Fowler an Tyler Thompson also scored in the frame for Midway.

Woody knocked down a trey in the early fourth quarter. Atchley added a basket. Davidson hit three of four free throws as Midway led at one point 37-28.

Greenback’s Willis hit a pair of treys in the final minute to cut Midway’s lead to three.

Willis led all scorers with 21 points.
