MMS splits with Harriman

The Midway Middle School Green Waves and Harriman Blue Devils finished their season series Saturday by battling to a draw at Midway.

Harriman opened the evening with a 35-17 victory in the girls game, but Midway got their revenge in the final game of the evening, 47-23.

Both teams play again Thursday as Midway hosts Cherokee while Harriman visits Lenoir City.

Girls Game

Midway stayed close for a half Saturday, but Harriman dominated the second half of play on their way to a 35-17 victory.

Powered by five points from Ivory Peddicord, Harriman jumped out to a 9-4 lead after six minutes of play. The Lady Devils held that five-point lead until halftime, 15-10.

Peddicord led Harriman  with eight points in the first half while six different players scored for Midway in the first two periods.

The third period would see the Lady Devils start to pull away as they outscored Midway 9-1 to take a 24-11 lead with one period left to play.

The final period was more of the same as Harriman added five more points to their lead.

Peddicord led Harriman with 11 points while Kierra Turner added nine.

Seven players scored for Midway on the night, led by Rachael Tuttle’s four points.

Midway (17) Taylor 2, Bertram 3, Sohm 1, Lewis 3, Hall 2, Tuttle 4, Colyer 2.

Boys Game

The second game of the evening was also close for a half, but the second half was a different story as Midway cruised to a 47-23 victory.

The first quarter would see both teams score seven points before the Green Waves used a 15-9 advantage in the second period to pull out to a 22-16 lead at halftime.

Jacob Cawood led Midway with eight points in the first half while Dwight Farmer scored six points for Harriman.

The Green Waves started to pull away in the third period. Led by six points from Cawood and five from Jason Gaus, Midway won the period, 14-4, to take a 36-20 lead with six minutes left to play.

Midway’s defense was strong again in the final period as they limited the Blue Devils to three points while Midway’s offense scored 11.

Cawood led Midway on the night with 14 points. Gaus was next in line with nine.

Farmer paced Harriman with eight points.
