The Midway Middle School Green Wave and Lady Waves opened the 2012-13 season Monday night by splitting a pair of games at Dayton City.
The Lady Waves opened the evening with a 46-11 loss, but Midway fought back and won the boys game, 39-33.
Midway will be on the road again Monday when they visit Harriman.
Last year, the Lady Waves played in the TMSAA East Tennessee Class AA and finished second only to Lenoir City.
This season, however, looks to be a rebuilding season as the Lady Waves lost pretty much all their offense off last year’s team and will be playing a lot of young girls this season.
The younger, inexperienced lineup suffered some growing pains Monday as Dayton City cruised to an easy 46-11 victory.
Midway (11) Bosnak 4, Ross 3, Shultz 3, Edgin 1.
Midway built a 12-point lead at halftime and made it hold down the stretch in picking a 39-33 victory over the Sweat Bees.
Justin O’Toole’s squad played well in the early going as they led 11-8 after one period of play then a strong second quarter allowed the Green Wave to take a 26-14 lead at halftime.
Jake Woody paced Midway in the first half with 12 point while Landon Davidson added five.
Midway’s offense slowed a bit in the third quarter and that allowed the Sweat Bees to make a run. Dayton City won the frame, 10-5, to pull within 31-24 with six minutes left to play.
The Sweat Bees would win the final period by one point, but it wasn’t enough to threaten the Green Wave down the stretch.
Woody led Midway on the night with 15 points while Skyan Lyle and Landon Atchley scored seven each.
Micah Hall knocked down three three-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points for Dayton City.
Midway (39) Woody 15, Narramore 2, Atchley 7, Davidson 5, Thompson 3, Lyle 7.
