Caney Creek Marina and Jolly Holler Hunt Club recently got together and donated more than $4,000 to area youth athletics. They did so by holding their first-ever Ride for the Kids Poker Run on Saturday, Aug. 24.

“We wanted to do something to help the kids in our area,” Caney Creek’s Mike Urwin said. “We got together and organized this event with Jolly Holler. We raised over $7,500 total and after expenses we donated over $4,000 to youth athletics.”

More than 120 boaters and cyclists got together for the event, which started with the bike ride at Caney Creek Marina and ended later with a barbecue. There was also a raffle and silent auction that helped with the fundraising.

“I think everybody had a lot of fun,” Urwin added. “But the main thing is that we were able to give something back to the community and the kids. Youth athletics is important because it keeps kids off the streets. We want to see youth athletics thrive instead of depreciate because they don’t have the funds.

“We want to thank everyone that came out and participated.”
