Amber Monroe of Rockwood has been selected to attend the Dance Division of the 2013 Tennessee Governor’s School.

Monroe was chosen from a pool of more than 800 applicants. She has also been awarded a talent scholarship for the Governor’s School.

Her audition process at Middle Tennessee State University involved a group dance audition and an interview with a panel of judges.

In order to be chosen for the program, applicants must have outstanding academic performance and a high grade-point average.

Monroe receives her dance training from Arts in Motion of Roane County, where she is also employed as an instructor of dance.

She is the third dancer from Arts in Motion to be selected for this prestigious dance program in the past eight years. In July 2012, Monroe traveled with other advanced students from Arts in Motion to New York City for a week of intensive dance training.

Monroe, 16, will attend the Governor’s School June 2-28 on the MTSU campus, Murfreesboro.

A student at Rockwood High School, she is the daughter of Mary Ann and Darrell Pugh and Allie and Alice Monroe.

Monroe plans to minor in dance at MTSU beginning in the fall of 2014.
