Donald W. Collett, 66

Donald W. Collett, 66, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at his home.

Mr. Collett was born Apr. 29, 1941 in Devonia. He has lived in the Frost Bottom Community of Anderson County since early childhood.

Mr. Collett was in the heating and air conditioning business and the former owner of City Heating and Air Conditioning in Oak Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin W. Collett.

Mr. Collett is survived by his wife, Mattie Collett of Oliver Springs; mother, Selma Dean Collett of Oliver Springs; son, Glenn Collett and wife Evangeline of Clinton; step-sons, Deano Woods and wife Tonya of Oliver Springs, Britt Woods and wife Donna of Oliver Springs; grandchildren, Jacob Collett, Rachel Collett and Celina Tinker all of Clinton; step-grandchildren, Garett Woods, Aariel Johnson, Ethan Woods and Cameron Emerett all of Oliver Springs; great-grandchildren, Savanna Diggs, Addison Tinker and Ethan Tinker all of Clinton; sisters, Brenda Potter and husband Lowell of Wartburg, Darlene Flippen and companion Dale Jackson of Coalfield and Mary Ooten and husband Jack of Oliver Springs; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends including, Lonas Freels, Timmy Giles, Ray Tinker, Johnny Duncan, Robbie Ollis and Howard Bowling.

A graveside service was held Friday, Dec. 21, 2007 at 4 p.m. at Butler Cemetery in Oliver Springs with Rev. Steve Seiber and Rev. Roger Buck officiating.

Reid Haywood Freels, Wartburg

Reid Haywood Freels, of Wartburg, passed away peacefully at home with his children by his side on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007. He courageously fought cancer for several months.

He was born in Sunbright on Dec. 8, 1931, and was the youngest of seven boys born to Lula Griffin Freels and Jessie Maynard Freels, III.

Growing up in the aftermath of the depression, his quick wit and gift for finding humor and laughter in the hardest of times endeared him to his family and friends.

His greatest joy was his familywhich included eight children with his first wife, Betty Cooper Freels of Deer Lodge/Oak Ridge. Four children of Jessie Freels of Columbia; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Enoch; and an extended family of cousins and relatives.

Mr. Freels was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Gilliam, Gilbert, Amos and Sam; and wife, Jessie Freels.

He is survived by his brother, Enoch Freels of Oregon, children with his first wife Betty Freels of Oak Ridge, Dorothy Davis of Knoxville, Charles Freels, Patti Collins, Dennis Freels, Cheryl Wilson, Mary Walker all of Wartburg, David Freels of Clinton and Barbara Morley of Placerville, Ca.; children of Jessie Freels, Gracia Foster, Ruby Erwin, Ollie Parham and Charles Allen of Columbia.

He loved music and enjoyed picking guitar with his family and good friends, his hobbies included fishing, hunting and he loved the outdoors. He made life long friends everywhere he traveled and entertained them with jokes and mischievous good natured pranks. His word was his bond and his handshake was his seal, even when times were hard. He was generous to a fault and quick to share and give wherever he saw a need.

Mr. Freels was a member of Masonic Lodge # 124 of Spring Hill, TN.

The family received friends Saturday evening, Dec. 22, 2007 at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service and Masonic service followed at 7 p.m..

Ruby A. Mayton, 85, Coalfield

Ruby A. Mayton, 85, a resident of Coalfield, passed away Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2007 at her home. She was born Aug. 1, 1922 in Unicoi County. She has lived in Coalfield since 1935.

Mrs. Mayton was a loving mother who served her family with patience for 69 years. She was a faithful member of Middle Creek Baptist Church and the Coalfield Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Mayton; and mother Lucy Gouge.

Mrs. Mayton is survived by twelve children, Corrine Finch and husband Howard of Oak Ridge, Norma S. Black and husband Jerry of Loudon, Erma McCarroll and husband Jerry of Oliver Springs, Carl Mayton Jr. and wife Sylvia of Nashville, Susie Rivers and husband James of Coalfield, Mary Burfield and husband Douglas of Whitehouse, Tn., J.D. Mayton and wife Marlene of Coalfield, Paul Mayton and wife Marjorie of Coalfield, Steve Mayton and wife Donna of Oliver Springs, Deborah Mayton of Coalfield, Phillip Mayton and wife Darlene of Coalfield and Teresa Phipps and husband David of Harriman; 27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and special friends, Sandy Harris, Shelby Hyder and Minnie Dean Justice.

The family received friends Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Funeral services followed at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ronald Guthrie officiating. Burial and graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery in Coalfield.

Marvin E. Hurst, Michigan

Marvin E. Hurst, of Indian River, Michigan, passed away quietly on Dec. 23, 2007 in a nursing home, located in Northern Michigan. Mr. Hurst was born Janurary 6, 1922, the proud son of Dave and Lucy Hurst in Deer Lodge. He was one of thirteen children. He grew up in the foot hills of Tennessee and loved to hunt, fish and horse play with his brothers. When WW ll started, he enlisted in the Army, but was too young to be sent overseas. He later served under General George S. Patton and received three Bronze Stars Medals, earned under fire. He returned after the War to marry his sweetheart, Elizabeth Peltz and together they had a son, Jerry.

In 1944 they moved to Detroit, Mich. to work for the auto companies. Mr. and Mrs. Hurst were married for over fifty years, before her passing. Mr. Hurst then moved to Indian River, Mich. to be with his three grandsons. He loved his time with them and often would have them stay with him.He would pick them up from school, watch them play soccer or baseball. His whole being later in life, were his grandsons. He loved them very much.

Mr. Hurst was a devoted husband for over fifty years, a wonderful and caring father, but most of all a loving and caring grandfather. He will be missed especially by them. He was always there when needed.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Lori Hurst; grandsons, Jared, Jordan and Jaden all of Indian River, Mich.; brother, Bill Hurst of Deer Lodge; and sister, Irene Hurst of Deer Lodge.

The family received friends Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Deer Lodge Congregational Church in Deer Lodge with Pastor Rose Hobart officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Deer Lodge.

Patricia Ann (Patsy Mason) Kirby

Patricia Ann (Patsy Mason) Kirby, 70, of Rockwood, passed away Nov. 30, 2007 in her home after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was of the Baptist faith.

Ms. Kirby was born in Sunbright on Nov. 23, 1937. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a very caring and compassionate person.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Vinus Mason; mother, Eva Mae Chaney; son, Walter Kirby; daughter, Adriane Kirby and husband Howard C. Kirby of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; sister, Janet Mason of Sunbright.

Ms. Kirby is survived by her daughter, Karen Lutek and husband Joe of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; granddaughter, Tasha Lutek of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; sister, Carol Sexton of Lancing; brothers, Lon Chaney of Mill Creek, Bob Mason and wife Faye of Sunbright; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Kirby was laid to rest at Rose Memorial Gardens in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

William Raymond Hembree, 83

William Raymond Hembree, 83, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007 at the Sunbridge Health Care Center in Lafollette. Mr. Hembree was born Sept. 16, 1924 in Roane County. He has lived most of his life in Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Maggie Copeland Hembree; and sister, Jennie Elsie Hembree Rather.

Mr. Hembree is survived by his nieces, Shirley Rather Goodman and husband Fred of Knoxville, Irene Jones and husband Roger of Coalfield, Ruth Stout of Harriman and Lillie Hatfield of Baltimore, Md.; nephew, Donald Rather and his wife Ann of Oliver Springs; nieces-in-law, June Rather and Geraldine Rather both of Oliver Springs and Billie Rather of Harriman.

A graveside service was held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Rather Cemetery in Oak Ridge.

Hobart Floyd Daugherty, 61

Hobart Floyd Daugherty, 61, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 27, 2007 at his mothers home in Mossy Grove. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, but gloriously received by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mr. Daugherty was born on Oct. 18, 1946 in Anderson County. At the time of his death he was attending Star of Hope Chapel. He was a Vietnam Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, McKinley Joe Daugherty; sisters, Imogene Daugherty and Grace Daugherty Gilmore; and brothers, K. H. Daugherty and Willie Daugherty.

Mr. Daugherty is survived by his wife, Delois Cross Daugherty of Wartburg; son and daughter-in-law, Donnie-Wayne and Jenny Daugherty of Oak Ridge; step-sons, Chris Hooks, Matt Hooks and Michael Hooks all of Wartburg; grandson, Donovan Daugherty of Clinton; step-granddaughter, Amber Braden of Oak Ridge; mother, Lillie Byrd of Harriman; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Glenda Daugherty of Walkashaw, Wis.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mae and Lew Rich of Wartburg, Kathleen and Carl Jones of Harriman, Gloria and Darrel Daugherty of Harriman, Teresa and Terry Daugherty of Harriman and Glenda Gail Key of Oak Ridge; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

The family received friends Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg.Funeral service followed at 8 p.m. with Rev. David Barkley and Rev. Jody Griffith officiating. Graveside service was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Flat Fork Cemetery.

Imogene Dagley Russell, 87

Imogene Dagley Russell, 87, a resident of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at the Life Care Center of Wartburg.

Mrs. Russell was born March 23, 1920 in the Buffalo Coal Camp in New River. She has lived in Oak Ridge for the past 35 years.

She was a member of the Fork Mountain Baptist Church, a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Russell; parents, John Dagley and Nina Ruffner Dagley; brother, Clyde Dagley; sisters, Betty Delozier, Nila Brown, Ethelene Daugherty, Velma Daugherty; and a twin sister, Kathleen Colston.

Mrs. Russell is survived by her sons, Ronald Russell and wife Donna of Oliver Springs and Richard Russell of Oak Ridge; granddaughters, Lisa Manfredo and husband Mike of Raleigh, NC, Angela Newman and husband Eddie of Maryville and Bridget Russell of Oliver Springs; three great-grandchildren, Whitney Newman, Lindsey Newman and Benjiman Manfredo; sisters, Sue Dagley of Oliver Springs and Georgia Eastridge of Coalfield; and sisters-in-law, Roxie Russell of Oliver Springs, Mable Russell of Harriman and Rhonda Dagley of Petros.

Mary Lourean Stringfield, 90

Mary Lourean Stringfield, 90 of Wartburg, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2007 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leander and Edie England Galloway; husband, Hilton Stringfield; son, Johnnie Stringfield; sisters, Rebecca Summers, Mamie Coltiz and Bessie McKeethan; brothers, Hurgin, Charlie, Lee and Leslie Galloway.

Mrs. Stringfield is survived by her daughters and sons-in-laws, Elizabeth and Bill Dial, Janet and Sam Byrd, Faye and Bud Northrup and Judy and Jerry Williams; grandchildren, Bill Dial, Joe Northrup, Treaea Martin, Roscoe Byrd, Kelly Kitts, Steve Turner, Sue, Joyce, Lois, Sharon and Diane; great grandchildren, Shaunnette, Shaunnaira, Abbi, Gabby, Lukas, Maci and Preston; special friends from Brookwood Terrace, Helen Kimery, Anna Lee Smith, Bobbie Houston and Faye Burgess.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Schubert Funeral Home Chapel, Wartburg with Bro. Steve Turner officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Ridge Church Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday evening, Dec. 23rd, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg.

Anong Wyrick, 67, Knoxville

Anong Wyrick, 67, of Knoxville, formerly of Sunbright, passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2007 at St. Marys Medical Center in Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her husban, Orville A. Wyrick of Sunbright; parents, Sanga and Pranee Phaisarnsin of Thailand.

Mrs. Wyrick is survived by her children, Chai Duckworth of Knoxville, Sue Lundy of Tampa, FLa., Ken Wyrick of Jamestown and John Wyrick of Deer Lodge; grandchildren, Samantha LaRue of Knoxville, Justin Brock of Sunbright, Hayley Wyrick of Sunbright, Matthew Wyrick of Jamestown, Ian, Logan and Jade Lundy all of Tampa, Fla.

The family received friends Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Union Grove Church in Sunbright. Funeral service followed with Bro. Tommy LaRue officiating. Interment was held in the church cemetery.
