Mt. Pisgah wins two

The Mt. Pisgah boys basketball team closed out last week with a pair of victories.

On Thursday, the Patriots traveled to Athens and picked up a 53-44 victory over Friendship Christian Academy. On Friday, the Patriots traveled to Blountville and knocked off Tri-Cities Christian Schools, 65-51.

Travis Walls’ squad built a nine-point lead at the half and made it stand in downing the Falcons, 53-44.

Mt. Pisgah started strong as they used nine points from Mark Ladd and four from Ryan Flatt in taking an 18-12 lead after eight minutes of play. Ladd and Flatt combined to go a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe in the opening period.

Samuel Parrott was Mt. Pisgah’s big gun in the second period, scoring seven points in leading the Patriots to a 31-22 lead at intermission.

The Falcons played much better in the second half. In the third period, Fairview outscored Mt. Pisgah 12-10 to make the score 41-34 with eight minutes left to play.

Mt. Pisgah, however, regrouped with six points from Ladd and four from Flatt to add two points to their lead in the final period of play.

Ladd led Mt. Pisgah on the evening with 18 points while Parrott and Flatt added 12 each.

Omar Mauricio (12 points), Andrew Rogers (11 points) and Kevin Reynolds (11 points) scored in double figures for Fairview.

A big second quarter was the key Friday night as Mt. Pisgah rolled past the Golden Eagles by 14 points.

Mt. Pisgah actually trailed 12-11 after eight minutes of play, but the Patriots caught fire in the second period, outscoring Tri-Cities 21-5 in the frame to make the score 32-17 at halftime.

Ladd and Braden Parrott led Mt. Pisgah with 10 points each in the frame while Flatt added six.

The Patriots needed the big halftime cushion as Tri-Cities would not go away in the second half. 

The Golden Eagles outscored the Patriots 18-16 in the third period before Mt. Pisgah picked up a 17-16 win in the final period.

Braden Parrott added nine points to his total in the second half and ended the evening with a team-high 19. Ladd was next in line with 17 while Flatt added 15.

Tri-Cities’ Aaron Hitefield led all scorers on the night with five three-pointers and 23 points.
