'Music of the Masters' closes out season

Roane Choral Society will present “Music of the Masters,” its final concert of the season at 3 p.m. May 1.

The group will be accompanied by a string quartet and piano in the historic Bethel Presbyterian Church, Kingston.  

The performance will include “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by Bach, “Hallelujah” by Beethoven, “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” by Brahms and other classics.

There is no admission charge; however, donations will be appreciated.

All donations will be applied to the costs of this concert and to a scholarship fund which supports music education in Roane County Schools.

Eugene Hattaway will lead the Roane Choral Society as music director and conductor.

Closing his second season with Roane Choral, Hattaway is minister of music at Tellico Village First Baptist Church.

He is director of the Whitestone Singers and the Knoxville Nativity Pageant.  

Mary Hook also finishes her second year as accompanist for the Roane Choral Society.  

She is pianist and organist for Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Hook been active as a teacher, soloist and accompanist with extensive performance experience.

Roane Choral Society is a non-profit organization which provides grants to music programs in area schools each year.

Through musical excellence, diversity and a commitment to education, the society seeks to develop greater involvement and interest in choral events within the community.
