Timothy Ray Treadway, a 40-year-old Rockwood man, was indicted by the Roane County grand jury on Tuesday for criminal negligent homicide.
He’s accused of killing 31-year-old Shayne Woodall on Jan. 15.
According to a Roane County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Deputy Keith Kile responded to 387 Waldo Road in reference to a collapsed man.
He met Treadway when he arrived.
“He stated the subject inside the residence was dead,” the report said. “I asked him for his identification and to show me where the other subject was located in the residence.”
Kile reported finding Woodall lying in the kitchen floor in a “large amount of blood.”
“While securing the scene for the investigator, I did observe in the kitchen area blood on the handle of the refrigerator, blood on the counter at the sink, an empty shell casing beside the freezer,” the report said. “The globe for the light fixture on the ceiling fan was shattered and glass on the floor ....”
According to his obituary, Woodall was a vials operator at Kimble Chase in Rockwood. He loved to cook and enjoyed bonfires. Roane County Sheriff Jack Stockton said Treadway told authorities that Woodall was one of his best friends.
“He claims it was an accident, and they were horseplaying,” Stockton said. “I do remember him coming in and giving that kind of statement, that they were wrestling around, all of a sudden he hears the gun shot.”
Treadway was arrested on Wednesday.
“Maybe they (the grand jury) saw some evidence that was presented, and thought it was more than just an accident,” the sheriff said.
