Location is everything in real estate, some say, and the new Roane Medical Center is expertly positioned to be accessible to local and regional patients.
The open house on Sunday was a good chance to get a feel for this patient-friendly facility.
Lots of natural lighting and views of the countryside will make a stay there less tiresome, and the couch-bed for overnight guests of patients will be very well received.
But one thing stood out as a major shortcoming to me. It may be premature to mention this but I hope the receptionist will loan visitors a GPS to find their way around the place and a bottle of water so they don’t become dehydrated along their way.
Like the Kroger store nearby during their rearrangement, the aisle directories are non-existent.
Remember how you had to wander around like Moses in the desert trying to find an item?
Unless directories and signage are added, this could be the case here in this beautiful hospital.
Most of the people who attended and took the Sunday afternoon tour were not young — there was lots of gray and thinning hair there.
These people will need to conserve their energy for something besides wandering the halls looking for an unmarked room or space.
I have no doubt that this minor problem will be rectified by the opening day, making Roane Medical Center a fantastic addition to our community.
