ORUD Valentines help heat homes

-A A +A

Proceeds from Oak Ridge Utility District’s special Valentine’s Day gifts help area families stay warm.

ORUD’s annual “Have a Heart, Heat a Home” program raises funds for Project SAFE, which helps low-income families struggling to pay their winter heating bills and facing the loss of energy service.

Through the program, ORUD offers a selection of Valentine’s Day gifts. All proceeds from the purchase of those gifts go to Project SAFE.

Orders can be faxed to 865-483-9452; mailed to ORUD, 120 S. Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge, TN 37830; or placed by phone at 865-483-1377.

General monetary donations to Project SAFE are also accepted and encouraged.

Gifts will be available to be picked up at ORUD’s offices from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 13 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 14.

Project SAFE funds are administered to low-income families through Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties.

ADFAC screens potential clients and provides one-time help to those who have a genuine need for assistance. No administrative funds are taken from SAFE contributions; 100-percent of donated funds go directly to families in need.

It is anticipated that a significantly increased number of people will need assistance due to this winter’s extremely cold temperatures and the weakened economy.

At ORUD, each time a Valentine’s purchase is made, a needy family receives a gift toward a warm home.
