It was defensive errors and a lack of timely hitting that did in the Oliver Springs Bobcats by a 7-5 margin to the Sweetwater Wildcats on a bone-chilling Thursday night at Oliver Springs’ Arrowhead Park.
Oliver Springs got two outs to start the first inning, but fielding errors led to the Wildcats taking the early 1-0 lead.
Oliver Springs threatened in the bottom of the inning, but Tony Kegley’s squad left runners on second and third and then the Wildcats pushed the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second on another fielding error.
Oliver Springs walked in a run in the bottom of the second inning, but left the bases juiced to trail 2-1 at the end of the second inning.
Sweetwater pushed the lead to 4-1 on more fielding errors by the Bobcats in the top of the third inning then Oliver Springs left a man on second base to trail 4-1 at the end of the third.
The fourth inning was better for the home team as Oliver Springs pulled within 4-2 on an RBI single from Dylan Seiber.
The Bobcats threatened again in the bottom of the frame, but left two men on.
The sixth inning would see Sweetwater open the lead to 7-2.
In the bottom of the inning, Oliver Springs’ Tanner Turpin had a fielder's choice RBI to make the score 7-3.
The Bobcats made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Wildcats walked in two runs, but Sweetwater used a ground out to get out of the jam with the winning run on first to escape Oliver Springs with the 7-5 win.
Dylan Seiber (2-3, 3 RBIs) and Jeremiah Johnson (2-4) led the 'Cats at the plate while Elijah White (CG, 1 K, 4 walks, 6 hits, 3 ER) was tallied with the loss.
