Thursday night was a good night for the Oliver Springs Middle School Bobcats and Lady ‘Cats picked up big wins over Harriman.

Oliver Springs opened the evening with a 50-25 victory over the Lady Devils in the girls game. The Bobcats completed the sweep with a 32-12 victory in the final game of the evening.

Girls Game

The Harriman Middle School Lady Blue Devils hung tough with the Oliver Springs Lady Bobcats, but down the stretch, the Lady ‘Cats turned on the afterburners and scorched the Lady Devils to a 50-25 win Thursday evening at Richard Pickell Gymnasium. 

The Lady ‘Cats got out to a 9-6 lead in the opening period and stretched the lead to 19-14 at halftime. 

The second half, however, was all Oliver Springs as they used a 14-4 third period to stretch the lead to 33-18 and had a 15-4 run at one point in the final period to help the Lady ‘Cats take a 50-25 win. 

Oliver Springs used a whopping 46-28 edge on the boards and a 16-5 edge in team steals to take home the win. 

Rachel Griffith (13 points, 7 boards, 6 steals) and Emily Griffith (10 points, 7 steals, 6 assists) led the Lady ‘Cats in scoring along with Emily Duggins (9 points, 6 boards) and Sydney Duggins (8 points, 10 boards). 

Courtney Jones (12 boards) and Rachel Smith (6 boards) led the team in rebounding. 

Harriman was led in scoring by Chelsea Langley (6 points).

Boys Game

With both teams adorning pink to promote breast cancer awareness, it was the Oliver Springs Bobcats who left the Richard Pickell Gymnasium “tickled pink” after an impressive 32-12 win over the Harriman Blue Devils.

Oliver Springs took a 5-4 edge at the end of the first period and stretched that advantage to 10-6 at halftime. In the second half, Oliver Springs roared to life with extra vim and vigor in the third period with a 12-4 tally in the period, taking a 22-10 lead into the final period. The Bobcats wrapped the game up with a 10-2 final period to make the final score 32-12. 

The Bobcats had a 38-18 tilt on the boards but lost in team steals 7-4. 

Oliver Springs was led by Aaron Noe’s 11 points and 7 boards. 

Other key contributors in the win were Shelby Morgan (6 points, 14 boards) and Taylor Murray (6 points). Markus Miller (5 boards) and Brandon Buck (5 boards) each played well in the win. 

Harriman was led in defeat by Christian Upton (6 points) and Jacob Gresham (4 points). 

Dwight Farmer (6 boards) led the Devils in rebounding.
