The 4- and 5-year-old class at The Henry Center, under the direction of Aimee Tuggle and Myrna Powell, have been collecting pennies for a special project.

Late last month, John Griffin and Stephanie Kolski, front row, from the Roane County Animal Shelter were presented with a check for $73.30 — equivalent to 7,330 pennies collected — to purchase much-needed food and supplies for pets at the shelter.

Presenting the check are preschoolers Kaitlyn Widner, Landon Murray, Ryne Lowery, Grayson Holloway, Madison Webb, Maggie Beaver, Nolan Raymond, Cloa Copeland, Jonas Raymond, Skyler Hammond, Alijiah Gracia, Savannah Gregg, Kholben Davis and Aaralyn Humphreys. Not pictured is Dallas Dyer.
