Phone scam targets seniors

A caller is trying to get the bank account information of senior citizens, telling them it is because of changes to their Medicare.
Billy McGhee said the caller said he was with the federal government and changes were being made to his social security and Medicare.
“He wanted my bank account number so he could send my check,” McGhee said.
McGhee didn’t buy it, and he was hung up on quickly when he refused to give the information to the caller from 617-284-1955, a Somerville, Massachusetts number that whitepages.com said has been associated with heavy scam activity. A search for the number online finds numerous complaints about the scam.
“I’m sure they are calling every senior citizen they can,” said McGhee. “I hope we can help somebody else.”
