For fans of pitching duels, the Kingston vs. CAK softball game didn’t disappoint.

The matchup featuring Kingston’s Mica Gaines and CAK’s Sierra Plese in the pitcher’s circle was scoreless until the Lady Jackets broke out for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

It was all the run support that Gaines would need as the Lady Jackets took a 3-0 victory.

Gaines finished with 10 strikeouts. She had a no-hitter going until Plese singled in the top of the fifth. It was the only hit Gaines allowed in the game.

Kingston’s Sydney Spurgeon scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. Lindsay Stickrod had an RBI double and Morgan Snow had an RBI single.

CAK couldn’t respond at the plate in the top of the seventh as Gaines pitched a three-up, three-down inning to close out the win.

Stickrod finished with two hits. In addition to her 10 strikeouts, Gaines also didn’t allow a walk.

Plese struck out three and gave up five hits in the loss.
