Michele Powell of Roane County is among the Tennessee Technological University students who received honors during the 36th annual College of Business Scholarships and Awards Banquet.

Powell, a senior accounting major, is the recipient of the Sam Looper Scholarship.

One hundred twenty-nine students received scholarships of almost $143,000.

“We are proud of this outstanding group of students,” said James Jordan-Wagner, dean of the College of Business.

“We are also extremely pleased with the support we receive from businesses and alumni in supplying the private funds for scholarships,” he added. “In trying times, they have responded by increasing the amount that we could award this year. These awards help us attract high-quality students to the college and the university.”

The College of Business and its accounting program are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, making it among the less than 5 percent of business programs worldwide to hold this distinction.
