Rabies clinic set at Planned Pet-Hood

Roane County Humane Society and Planned Pet-Hood Spay and Neuter Clinic will have a rabies clinic this weekend.

The clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16 in Planned Pet-Hood at 3699 Harriman Hwy., Harriman.

Cost of the rabies injection is $10 per pet. Appointments are not required.

State law requires annual rabies vaccinations for all pets older than 5 or 6 months.

The inoculation commonly referred to as “the annual” will also be available for $10. It includes vaccinations for distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus and parainfluenza.

These diseases are easily transmitted from one pet to another and are dangerous and difficult to treat, according to the Humane Society’s most recent newsletter, “Critter Chat.”

According to the Humane Society, the American Animal Hospital Association Canine Vaccination Guidelines include distemper, parvo and adenovirus in the core vaccinations recommended for all dogs.
