After opening conference play with a tough loss at Walters State, the Roane State Raiderettes rebounded in fine fashion over the weekend as Monica Boles’ squad picked up a pair of victories at Dyersburg State and Southwest Tennessee.
The formula for success was the same in both games as the Raiderettes didn’t put up a lot of points offensively in the first half, but the second half was a different story as Roane State scored 44 points or more in the second half of both games.
On Friday at Dyersburg State, the Raiderettes used a 44-point second half to pick up a 66-55 victory. Saturday, the Raiderettes scored even more in the second 20 minutes as they pumped in 47 points on their way to a 74-70 victory.
Roane State will be off this week before traveling to Columbia, Ky. next week to take on Lindsey Wilson.
Teams usually shoot better at home, but that wasn’t the case for the Lady Eagles as Roane State held the home team to an ice-cold 31.6 percent from the floor on the night.
While Dyersburg State was struggling, Roane State didn’t shoot much better in the first half as the Raiderettes hit just 32 percent (8-25) of their field goal attempts in the first half and that left the teams tied at 22 at halftime.
The Raiderettes picked up the scoring pace in the second half as they hit on 46.4 percent (13-28) of their field goal attempts and 70 percent (14-20) of their charity tosses. The solid shooting in the second half allowed Roane State to outscore the Lady Eagles 44-33 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Former Clarkrange star Tasha Phillips had another huge night in leading the Raiderettes to the victory. Phillips ended the night with 21 points, 15 rebounds, seven blocks, four steals and three assists in 36 minutes of action.
Jill Herman added 15 points and five boards for the Raiderettes.
Monica Womack and Markita Cole scored 10 points each for the Lady Eagles.

Four Raiderettes scored in double figures and two more were only a basket away as Roane State pulled out a tough 74-70 victory over the Lady Saluqis.
The first half was once again a battle as Roane State trailed 28-27 at intermission.
Roane State, however, shot a sizzling 57.7 percent (15-26) from the floor in the second half to put up 47 points and pull out the four-point victory.
Roane State shot 49.1 percent (27-55) from the field on the afternoon while holding the Lady Saluqis to 34.2 percent on 25 of 73 shooting.
Phillips led the Raiderettes with 20 points and seven rebounds while Herman (14 points, 7 rebounds), Jasmine Franklin (10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) and Jacquelyn Hickson (12 points, 3 assists) also scored in double figures for the Raiderettes.
Krystal Riley led the Lady Saluqis with 15 points while Shantel Crout added 10.
