The Roane State Raiderettes weren’t good hosts last week at the 2013 Roane State Christmas Classic as Monica Boles squad knocked off Lincoln Trail College on Wednesday, 76-45, before downing Cincinnati State on Thursday, 83-72.
With the victories, the Raiderettes have now won five straight games and will take a 10-5 record into the 2014 portion of their schedule.
The Lady Statesmen made the trip from Indiana to take on the Raiderettes, but they probably should have stayed home considering Roane State rolled to a 76-45 victory.
While they ended the game with a 31-point victory, the Raiderettes did have trouble getting started.
Roane State led just 13-10 midway through the first half, but they used a pair Cayla Oglesby three-pointers to spark a 10-0 run that made the score 23-10. The Lady Statesmen did score five straight to cut the lead to 23-15, but Roane State’s Taylor Neely buried a three-pointer with five seconds left to give the Raiderettes a 26-15 lead at halftime.
The second half proved pure domination for the Raiderettes. After trading points to start the half, Roane State used a 10-2 run to take a 40-21 lead. They later had a 13-4 run that made the score 53-28.
From there, the Raiderettes put in cruise control as they went on to the 31-point victory.
Eleven players scored for Roane State on the evening with Ashley Cox (12 points), Nicole Hassler (12 points) and Mikayla Bennett (12 points, 5 steals) all scoring in double figures.
Shanae Brown (6 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists), Shauntae Brown (4 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 steals), Joanna Young (8 rebounds) and Oglesby (9 points) also put up solid numbers in the win.
Elizabeth Mahurin led the Lady Statesmen with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Roane State head coach Monica Boles must have thought she had received an early Christmas present Thursday afternoon when the Raiderettes raced out to 20-point lead in the first half.
But in the second half it seemed like someone was about to steal that present as Cincinnati State led by as many as eight points, before Roane State rallied again down the stretch for an 83-72 victory.
The score was tied at 10-10 with 14 minutes left in the opening half, but that’s when Roane State put together a 19-3 run to take a 29-13 lead.
The lead eventually grew to 20 points at 43-23, but the Lady Surge would score the last nine points of the half to pull with 43-32 at intermission.
Bennett had a huge first half for Roane State, burying four three-pointers and scoring 14 points. Cox also knocked down a triple and scored 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Lady Surge continued to play well to start the second half and by the 10:30 mark of the period, Cincinnati State finished what was a 33-5 run to take a 56-48 lead.
But somehow, Boles’ squad didn’t crack. The Raiderettes used a 12-2 run to regain a 60-58 lead then back-to-back three-pointers from Young and Oglesby gave Roane State a 66-62 advantage with 5:49 left to play.
The Lady Surge eventually cut the lead to one at 71-70 with 2:38 to play, but Cox buried a three-pointer and later added an old-fashioned three-point play as the Raiderettes ended the game on an 11-2 run.
Cox led Roane State on the day with 19 points. Bennett (14 points) and Sarah Nixon (10 points) also scored in double figures for Roane State.
Cincinnati State’s Emily Fite led all scorers with 21 points.
