The Roane State Raiders remained the hottest team in the TJCCAA as over the weekend Randy Nesbit’s squad defeated Dyersburg State on Friday, 86-75, and Southwest Tennessee on Saturday, 74-60.
Roane State picked up another victory on Monday as the Raiders blasted visiting Union College, 106-73.
The three wins in four days gives the Raiders an overall record of 13-4, but Roane State has won 10 of their last 11 and seven straight. Roane State is 7-3 in TJCCAA play.
Great shooting was the key to all three victories as Roane State shot 47.5 percent or better from the floor in all three games.
Roane State will look to stay hot over the weekend as the Raiders play at Jackson State on Friday and at Columbia State on Saturday.
Solid shooting can make up for a lot of mistakes and that was the case Friday night as the Raiders shot 57.1 percent (32-56) from the floor and that was enough to overcome 26 turnovers in knocking off Dyersburg State, 86-75.
Balance also played a role in Friday’s victory as five Raiders scored in double figures.
Sophomore Yavario Smith led the way with 23 points and three rebounds.
Kinard Gadsen-Gilliard (14 points, 5 assists), Jacob Pettway (11 points, 7 rebounds), Quint Clinkscales (11 points, 6 rebounds) and Brad Reid (10 points, 8 rebounds) also scored in double figures while Antonio Kalpic (8 points, 8 rebounds) came close to giving the Raiders a sixth player in double figures.

The Raiders shot the ball well again Saturday and the result was a 14-point victory over the Saluqis. Roane State connected on 47.5 percent (29-61) of their field goal attempts against Southwest Tennessee.
Smith was again Roane State’s big gun on Saturday as he led the Raiders with 20 points.
Pettway (11 points, 9 rebounds) and Reid (10 points, 9 rebounds) also scored in double figures for the Raiders while Gadsen-Gilliard (8 points, 6 rebounds), Maybank (8 points), and Clinkscales (8 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds) also put up solid numbers for the Raiders.
Reginald Porter led the Saluqis with 15 points while Antonio Coleman added 11.

Roane State’s best shooting night came Monday when the Raiders knocked down 58.6 percent (41-70) of their field goal attempts in a 106-73 victory over Union College.
Smith again had another huge night as he knocked down five three-pointers on his way to 27 points. He also had five steals.
Clinkscales was next in line as he ended the evening with 17 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Jonathan Maybank (12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Pettway (11 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists) and Kalpic (10 points, 4 rebounds) also scored in double figures for Roane State.
James Strange (19 points) and Josh Smith (17 points) led Union College in defeat. Stuart Stamper (13 points) also scored in double figures for the Bulldogs.
