Red Cross seeks shelter-team churches

-A A +A

The American Red Cross Tennessee Mountain Valley welcomes Roane County area churches to partner with them to become shelter teams.

“The training will aid the Red Cross when shelters need to be opened quickly” said Mary Beth Birge, director of emergency services for the East Tennessee Region.

The Red Cross recently partnered with six shelter-team churches in Blount County.

Red Cross instructors trained 38 people in those churches.

Any church group or organization interested in training with the Red Cross may contact the American Red Cross at 584-2999 or email Birge at marybeth.birge@redcross.org

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters.

It also supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood, teaches skills that save lives, provides international humanitarian aid and supports military members and their families.

The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
