Former students of Joyner School are scheduled to come together for a reunion on Saturday, Sept. 6 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Union Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

This is only the second reunion in the school's history. It was closed in 1975 and later combined with Petros School to form Petros-Joyner Elementary.

Former student Leamon Woods and former student and teacher Lucy Sweat are leading the group that has planned the reunion.

Woods explained that they want to kick the reunion off with an enactment of the beginning of a school day ... the bell ringing to call the students to class, reading scripture followed by prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance and perhaps a song. Wilson recalls that the school day always started with a song.

Woods said that the names of those who have registered early will be used during the "roll call" to take attendance.

The fun of the fall festival cake walk will also make an appearance during the reunion. Woods said they hope to revisit as many of the things that used to be part of life at Joyner School as possible and welcome suggestions for activities that can be added.

The group is especially interested in photos from the years at Joyner School to display at the reunion.
