Kathy L. Rider and Clifton David Matheson announce their forthcoming marriage.
The ceremony will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Matheson home. A reception will follow.
Invitations will be sent to individuals to join the couple on their special day.
The bride elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Rider of Fruithurst, Ala.
She is a graduate of Snead State Community College and holds an associate’s degree in applied science. She is a critical-care nurse and a nursing supervisor with Riverview Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, Ala.
The prospective groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Matheson of Harriman.
A Gulf War veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1980-96. He served aboard the USS Independence, USS Trippe, USS Simon Lake, USS Wisconsin and the USS Sipan. His primary job onboard the ships was as a boiler room technician and operator. He was aboard the USS Wisconsin when the first tomahawk missile strike was launched against Iraq. He spent eight months in the support of Desert Shield and Storm.
In 1991, he returned to the Gulf in support of Enduring Freedom. While in the Navy, he received training as a military police officer.
After receiving numerous awards and medals, he retired from military service. He is an engineer who has worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad since 1996.
