Nine people died in traffic accidents in Roane County last year compared to 12 in 2011. That trend didn’t play out across the state.
According to statistics compiled by the Tennessee Department of Safety, 1,013 died on the road last year, compared to 937 the year before.
“The Tennessee Highway Patrol is continuing to place an emphasis on seat belt and DUI enforcement, such as No Refusal, to address this increase,” said Dalya Qualls, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
