Roane Countians are making a difference in the lives of more than 1,500 needy children this Christmas with gift-filled shoeboxes.
Through Operation Christmas Child, Roane County volunteers prepared more than 1,500 shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and notes of encouragement.
Although the area collection of the gifts is finished, the shoeboxes’ journey to children has only begun, said a release from Samaritans Purse, which oversees Operation Christian Child.
Volunteers continue to prepare, package and transport 7.2 million gifts across the United States to their final destination.
There’s still time to get involved in this year’s event by building a box online at tinyurl.com/q9jrxx3.
Through an online tool, participants can conveniently send shoebox gifts to kids in some of the hardest-to-reach countries.
Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in more than 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child.
Samaritan’s Purse works with community churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
