By Goose Lindsay

With two teams appearing in the TSSAA State Tournament, the 2013 baseball and softball season was a good one for Roane County’s five high schools.

That success showed up in a big way in postseason awards as a total of 43 players from Roane County were named to all-district teams in 2013.
The biggest award was in baseball where Rockwood’s Tavin Napier was named the District 3-A Co-Player of the Year after leading to Tigers to the District 3-A and Region 2-A titles as well as an appearance in the TSSAA Class A State Tournament in Murfreesboro.
For the season, Napier hit .581 with 13 doubles, 7 triples, 6 home runs, 60 RBIs and 46 runs scored.
Napier was one of seven Tigers named to the All-District 3-A Team as he was joined by Hunter Grant, Riley Clem, Jared Breazeale, Hunter Robbins, Hayden Freels and Christian Domon.
Six other players made the All-District 3-A Team. Harriman was represented by Grant Jenkins, Hunter Jenkins, Chase Randolph and Chris Works while Hayden Hester and Christian Moore were selected from Midway.
Six other baseball players made all-district teams as Kingston’s Heath Beatty, Spencer Boles, Dustin Kitts and Ben Redden made the All-District 4-AA Team while Oliver Springs’ duo of Taylor Coleman and Keith Roberts were chosen in District 4-A.
In softball, Oliver Springs had a fabulous year. The Lady ‘Cats set a school record for wins with 29, and along the way they won the District 3-A title, Region 2-A title, and finished fourth overall in the TSSAA Class A State Tournament.
The Lady ’Cats’ hard work was rewarded with a total of eight players making the All-District 4-A Team.
Rachel Griffith, Courtney Jones, Macy Martin and Kaylee Morgan were first team selections while Emily Griffith, Char-Lee Roberts, Tiffany Roberts and Raichel Snellings were second team picks.
Kingston and Midway were next in line with five selections each.
Briley Garrett, Alison Mossing, Morgan Snow, Sydney Spurgeon and Lindsey Stickrod were chosen from Kingston in District 4-AA while Raygn Hall, Alex Richardson, Kallie Sohm, Christina Stansbury and Halie Wiley represent the Lady Waves on the District 3-A Team.
Harriman and Rockwood would add a total of six players  to the All-District 3-A Team. Darian Boyd, Haley Goldston, Abigail Higgins and Ivory Peddicord made the squad from Harriman while Lexi Monroe and Cheyenne Thompson were Rockwood’s selections.
