The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation fined Roane Medical Center $500 late last month.
Officials said the hospital committed two violations: failing to obtain a construction permit prior to constructing an air contaminant source and failing to obtain an operating permit prior to its operation.
TDEC officials discovered the violations when reviewing Roane Medical’s application for two natural gas-fired boilers.
Roane Medical can resolve the matter without appeal by paying a reduced penalty of $375.
“If Roane County Medical Center declines the division’s offer to resolve this matter without appeal for the reduced penalty amount, it may exercise its right to appeal,” the order said. “However, if Roane County Medical Center neither accepts the division’s offer nor timely appeals, then the entire civil penalty amount of $500 will become due and subject to collection.”
