Roane Medical Center to honor county's women Thursday

Roane Medical Center, Harriman, will recognize the women of Roane County on Oct. 28 in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Area women are welcome to stop by the Women’s Center of Roane Medical Center for a free gift and tour of the facility.

The staff is also available to schedule mammograms for women still needing their annual exam.

The Women’s Center is at 307 Devonia St., Harriman.

Early detection is the key to a cure or successful treatment of breast cancer, one of the most common cancers in women in the United States.

The Women’s Center offers mammography screenings and breast ultrasounds to detect changes in breast tissue that is difficult to feel by hand.

If cancer cells are detected, the physician may choose to perform stereotactic biopsies.

A stereotactic breast biopsy requires a specialized mammography machine that helps guide the radiologist’s instruments to the abnormal growth site.

The Women’s Center of Roane Medical Center offers a comfortable atmosphere with private changing rooms for patients.

It is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the Food and Drug Administration.
