The Roane Revolution recently finished second in the U8 girls division at tournaments sponsored by the World Futbol Tour and 3v3 Live organizations in Knoxville.
Made up of girls from Kingston, Harriman and Rockwood, the Revolution competed against all-club teams from Knoxville, Morristown and the Tri-Cities. In both events, the Revolution went up against Lakeway Soccer Club (Morristown) in the finals and fell by scores of 4-2 and 4-3.
“To put a team together in a month and play against the best club teams in their age group from FC Alliance, Inter Futbol Academy, Dallas FC Tri, Lakeway, and others is tremendous,” head coach Donnie Green said.
Highlights for the team included a sudden-death 5-4 win over Dallas FC Tri, and a comeback win over Inter Futbol Academy (Knoxville) 6-5.
“These girls refused to give up and gained a lot of respect from these club teams. I had several coaches asking me what club we were from. They were blown away that these were kids who had only played rec ball so far in their careers,” Green said.
The Revolution rode the leg of Braxton Fritz, who led the team in scoring, but received help from Autumn Walters, Karli Pettitt, and Mallory Johnson, who also scored goals. Defensively, the play of Johnson, Ava Conway and Morgan Crass was key in the Revolution’s success. Crass and Johnson were stalwarts in goal and allowed very few scores.
“All of Roane County should be proud of these kids and what they accomplished,” Green said. “Experience like this will only help them get better and prepare them for the next season.”
