Roane schools employee on leave without pay

An employee with the Roane County school system has been placed on administrative leave without pay.

Director of Schools Toni McGriff would not identify the employee, say where the person worked or what the person did with the school system.

She did offer a few details on what led to the disciplinary action.

According to McGriff, the employee appeared to be under the influence of prescription drugs or some type of narcotic.

McGriff said the matter came to the school system’s attention after the employee was noticed behaving strangely.

“She didn’t seem in character, so to say,” McGriff said.

McGriff said the suspended employee will have a chance to return to their job, provided that the employee takes the necessary steps to improve and there are no repeat incidents.

“Absolutely no further incidents of this type will be tolerated,” she said.
