Roane State athletes assist area students, teachers in classroom

Roane State Community College baseball players and softball players pitched in at Roane County elementary schools during fall semester.

Baseball players volunteered at Kingston Elementary School, and softball players helped out at Midtown Elementary School and Walnut Hill Elementary School.

The athletes assisted with activities in the classroom and read to children.

“The kids like it, and our guys really enjoy going out into the community and helping,” said Roane State baseball coach David Lane.

Baseball players who volunteered were Taylor Denton, Matt Aderhold, Justin Trent, Kent Jinkins, Michael Donaldson and Edward Clawson.

Softball players who volunteered at Midtown Elementary School were Felicia Bailey, Brittany Green, Morgan Page, Jaylen Garrett, Misa Saylor, Kwanneisha Bazel, Hailey Morgan, Ka’Teisha Bazel, Linnsay Williamson and Alexis Tirado.

Players who volunteered at Walnut Hill were Brittany James, Cassie Wanamaker, Kristina Stephens, Kayley Murray, Suzanne Everhart and Anna Marie Russell.

“The players really enjoy spending time with the kids and having an opportunity to give back to the community,” Roane State softball coach Sue Niemi said.
