Roane State splits with Spartanburg Methodist

To say the smack down was laid on the Spartanburg Methodist Lady Pioneers by the Roane State Raiderettes in the 101-41 drubbing on Tuesday night was an understatement. 

The Raiderettes actually trailed 8-4 at one point, but managed to outscore the Lady Pioneers 48-23 through the rest of the first half. 

The leading scorers for Roane State were Taylor Neely and Shauntae Brown (11 points each). 

Runs of 25-6 and 24-8 comprised of the dominant second half for the Raiderettes en route to the 101-41 massacre.

Men’s Game

So close yet so far was the most apt way to describe the Roane State Raiders heartbreaking 79-76 defeat on Tuesday night. 

The Raiders held an early 8-7 lead before embarking on a 7-0 surge to take a 15-7 lead. However, the Pioneers battled back with runs of 9-2 and 14-6 to tae a 30-23 lead at one stretch. 

Undaunted, the Raiders battled back with a 14-6 run of their own to take a 37-36 halftime lead. 

Greg Murphy (12 points) led the Raiders in scoring at the half. 

The Pioneers, however, used a 13-5 run at one point to help propel them to a 69-59 lead. The Raiders battled back to get within one on a 17-8 run late in the going, but the Pioneers scored a late basket and thwarted a scoring attempt by Roane State to preserve the 79-76 win. 

The Pioneers owned a 32-27 advantage on the boards, and a 14-7 tilt in team steals. 

Roane State was led in scoring by Murphy (23 points, 5 boards, 5 assists), C.J. Foster (14 points), Tres Palmer (11 points, 13 boards), Corey Harris (8 points), Nygel Gates (7 points), and Marcus McKoy (6 points, 5 boards).
