Roberts receives Altrusa scholarship

Natasha Roberts of Rockwood is a recipient of this year’s Altrusa’s annual scholarship awards.

Roberts is enrolled in Tennessee Technology Center at Harriman. Her scholarship will support her course work in medical administrative billing and coding.

The goal of Altrusa’s scholarships is to encourage and support area women who are striving to complete their education, search for jobs, and become financially independent.

The scholarships target non-traditional students, including re-entry students who have returned to college or other training after interrupting studies for work or family, or students who are beginning their education after an interruption between high school and college.

“The selection process is challenging because of the many deserving applicants we interview,” said Linda Kimmel, scholarship committee chairwoman.  Roberts and other recipients “were exceptional in their academic ability, determination to succeed and their ability to overcome personal obstacles.”

Altrusa is a civic organization of professional women involved in community service and literacy. Members support various community projects, including area charities and an annual literacy fundraiser with Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club.
