Gerald Willard of Knights of Pythias Oak Leaf Lodge 49, Rockwood, was elected grand chancellor of the Tennessee Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias for 2013.

Willard and Bobby Crowe, also of the Rockwood lodge, are among the officers serving on the state level for the year.

Crowe, a past supreme chancellor for the Knights of Pythias, is the grand secretary.

The two took office during the Tennessee Grand Lodge’s 141st annual convention in Gatlinburg.

“Brother Willard is active in the local lodge, serving its offices and supporting many worthy local community and charity projects,” Crowe said.

“We are pleased to have Grand Chancellor Gerald Willard from our lodge and wish him well in his leadership and endeavors for
the Knights of Pythias this next year.”

The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal charitable organization founded during the Civil war on Feb. 19, 1864, in Washington, D.C.

It was founded upon the principals of friendship, charity and benevolence.

The Fraternal Order Knights of Pythias, an international organization, was the first fraternal order to be chartered by the U.S. Congress with endorsement from President Abraham Lincoln.

Knights of Pythias supports and participates in numerous local and national charities.

The national charity is the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The Rockwood lodge has a Relay for Life team for the Roane County event.

“The Knights of Pythias is proud to be a participant in Roane County and this community,” Crowe said.

Membership is open to males ages 18 and older.
