The Harriman and Rockwood tennis teams met up last week at Roane State and the news was good for the green and gold as the Tigers and Lady Tigers swept the match-up.
The boys’ action was close with Rockwood holding a 4-3 advantage in games played. The Tigers also won two matches via forfeit to make the final score 6-3.
The girls’ matches weren’t as close as Rockwood cruised to a 9-0 victory.
Only one of the nine matches played were close on the day and that came in No. 3 doubles as Rockwood’s duo of Stephanie Long and Tristen Walls defeated Harriman’s Gabby Kilgore and Charity Griffis by a final score of 8-6.
The remaining eight contests were decided by five games or more.
The remaining two matches in doubles would see Rockwood’s Alex Patterson and Kristen Jolley beating Amber Frost and Julie Emily, 8-0, while Shelley Edwards and Allison Frogg beat Hayle Moore and Autumn Dayton, 8-1.
In singles play, Patterson beat Frost 8-1; Edwards beat Moore, 8-2; Blayke Kelly beat Emily, 8-0; Jolley beat Kilgore, 8-3; Zoe Hill beat Griffis, 8-2; and Frogg beat Dayton, 8-1.
Most of the contests on the boys’ side were close with only one match being decided by more than four games.
The closest match in singles came in the No. 4 match as Rockwood’s Carson McCullough beat Cody Palko, 8-6.
Two matches were decided by final scores of 8-5 and both those matches were won by Harriman as Corey Burgess defeated Caleb West, 8-5, while Tim Dishner beat Tyler Wicks.
Rockwood won the other two matches in singles with Ryan Hamby beating Matt Snow, 8-4, and Josh Spurling knocking off Taylor Johnson, 8-1.
Rockwood’s Craig Hill won via forfeit.
Both doubles matches were close.
Rockwood’s team of Hamby and West defeated Snow and Burgess, 8-5, while Harriman’s duo of Dishner and Palko knocked off Wicks and Spurling, 8-6.
