A Rockwood man is scheduled to appear in Roane County General Sessions Court next month on bomb-making charges.

Brian Bashaw, 45, was arrested on Aug. 8 after police went to his home at 324 S. Chamberlain Ave. to serve him with a vandalism warrant.

There, police said, they discovered five pipe bombs.

“The items were lengths of pipe secured at both ends, holes drilled in one end for ignition devices, filled with a black substance believed to be gun powder, along with objects which were intended to magnify the explosive effects,” the offense report said.

A Knox County bomb squad was called to the scene

Police charged Bashaw with possession of explosive components and prohibited weapons.

The police report said Bashaw has mental issues.

The Roane County Sheriff’s Office assisted Rockwood police in making the arrest.

“Upon arresting Mr. Bashaw without incident, a search of the residence was conducted by officers at the request of the residence’s owner,” the report said.

The bombs, several weapons, bullets and knives were found during the search.
