Rockwood rolls past Berean

Defense was the name of the game Tuesday night as the Rockwood Tigers and Lady Tigers both picked up District 3-A victories at Berean Christian.

The Lady Tigers took the floor first and cruised to a 49-24 victory over the Lady Eagles. Paul Kamikawa’s squad completed the sweep with a 39-28 victory.

Rockwood will look for another district sweep Friday night when the Tigers host Harriman.

Girls Game

Rockwood started strong and never looked back on their way to the big win. 

The Lady Tigers would use the long ball to grab the early lead as Reanna  Henderson and Jessica Bear each hit three-pointers in a 14-point first quarter for the Lady Tigers.

Henderson hit another three-pointer in the second period as Rockwood added 15 points to their tally.

Rockwood’s offense did slow a bit in the third quarter as they scored only six points, but they heated up again in the final period as they added 14 points to their scoring column.

Rockwood had a balanced attack Tuesday as 10 different players scored points. 

Henderson led the charge with 10 points while Savannah Grant (9 points) and Jade Napier (8 points) came close to double figures.

Boys Game

The final game of the evening was a defensive battle in which the Tigers won by 11 points.

Rockwood trailed 7-6 after eight minutes of play, but the Tigers used a 13-6 advantage in the second period to take a 19-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The third period was another one-point period, but this time it was the Tigers added a point to their lead, making the score 29-22 lead with eight minutes left to play.

Rockwood’s defense stayed strong in the final period as they outscored the Eagles 10-6 to put the finishing touches on the 11-point victory.

Cleveland Davidson led Rockwood on the night with 16 points.
