Roane State Community College President Gary Goff will serve as this year’s chairman of The Roane Alliance board of directors.
“The Roane Alliance is very honored, to say the least, that Dr. Goff has agreed to give his considerable talents to the leadership of the Roane Alliance board in the coming year,” said Leslie Henderson, president and CEO of The Alliance.
Goff has been active in numerous civic organizations in the region. He is past chairman of the Roane County Chamber of Commerce and Harriman Utility Board, and a board member of the East Tennessee Economic Council.
He received the 2011 Roane County Chamber Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding performance and contribution to the county and Chamber.
Other honors include the 2010 Ovation Award for Excellence in Business Leadership, The National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
As the fourth president of Roane State Community College, Goff is responsible for nine East Tennessee campuses with more than 12,000 students registered annually and 800 employees.
His employment history includes director of corporate training for a workforce of 30,000 and a budget of $71 million and a director of planning, research and measurement that produced institutional strategic goals, objectives and plans.
He was also a director of business development that designed business short- and long-range marketing strategies, milestones and performance measurements; and a facilities manager who led, trained and directed an organization of 950 diverse employees, 10 office buildings, sporting facilities, dormitory/housing complexes and real-estate property.
Goff was an infantry company commander in the 101st Airborne Division during combat in Vietnam. He commanded an infantry battalion in Germany during the Cold War and served along the demilitarized zones in Korea, Honduras, northern Iraq and the Middle East.
As chief military planner for the deployment of forces into Bosnia, he planned and conducted joint military training exercises with 23 Middle Eastern countries.
“Goff’s military career is especially impressive,” said Henderson, “having served 30 years of active duty as an U.S. Army ranger.”
Joining Goff as Alliance board officers for 2011-12 are Vice Chairman Keith Uselton of the Daniels, Uselton, Clay, CPS firm; Secretary Jerry Stephens of AGA Insurance; and Treasurer George Wilson.
The Roane Alliance is Roane County's economic development organization and consists of both public and private organizations, including the Roane County Chamber of Commerce, the Roane County Industrial Development Board and the Roane County Visitors Bureau.
