Roane State Community College sophomore Alli Schatzer of Kingston was one of the weekly winners in Dr Pepper’s Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway contest.
Schatzer received a $2,500 scholarship for her video explaining why she deserved to win money for tuition.
Dr Pepper solicited submissions from students across the country.
In Schatzer’s creative video, she gives Dr Pepper reasons to pick her through messages written on her hands.
“I was thinking of a way to make the words more creative,” Schatzer said. “I didn’t want to say why they should pick me. I wanted them to see it.”
Schatzer is interested in graphic design, which she describes as a combination of art and persuasion.
She enrolled at Roane State in fall 2009 and first took art classes at the college in spring 2010.
“I love the freedom of it,” she said. “You are working really hard at something and you are creating things. I want people to see things in a different way. I don’t want to stand out personally, but I want my work to stand out.”
